Passive Baxandall-style tone EQ with tube gain.

The Vacbax offers input and output transformers, boost/cut controls for bass and treble, frequency range selector for the treble control, and a switchable high-pass filter. The high-pass filter is available even when the equalization is bypassed. Makeup gain is provided by the same high-voltage tube circuit found in the RMS5A7 Tubule and our other modules.
Passive tone controls have the advantage of allowing broad tone shaping, including large bass and treble boosts, without the pinched “phasey” artifacts associated with other EQ topologies. The switchable treble band allows control of either the entire top end or just the sizzle. The switchable hi-pass filter allows subsonic mud to be excluded from bass boosts.

Like all Roll Music gear, the Vacbax is elegantly simple and ruggedly constructed. The soft bypass allows the Vacbax’s tube and transformers to be used as a unity-gain line amp, great for lending a little color or solving a wide range of interfacing challenges like only good transformers can. The hi-pass filter is available even when the rest of the EQ is bypassed.

Our amplifier is not a wimpy starved-plate design, nor is it an op-amp based preamp with a tube stuck on top for marketing appeal. It's all tubes and iron, with sophisticated modern power management circuitry to generate the high-voltage plate supply and high-current heater supply to power the tube. Careful design of this high-efficiency power circuit allows the Vacbax to work within the space and power consumption limitations of a single module.

The Vacbax is well suited to sweetening, brightening, or otherwise morebetterizing everything from vocal or percussion tracks to entire mixes. Buy two for stereo!
